To keep your car at its best this summer, you may need to take care of some maintenance. To help you get started, use these tips.

Essential Car Care Tips for the Summer

The summer heat and intense sunshine aren't only bad news for humans. Cars can also suffer some negative effects caused by the intense summer heat. To keep your car in top shape despite of the weather, take care of these routine maintenance tasks and do your best to stay  in the shade!

Check on Your Battery

If you were concerned for your battery during the winter, keep in mind that the summer heat can actually be worse for it. On top of adding extra strain, the heat can also lead your battery fluid to evaporate. This can cause new issues while also exacerbating issues that were already there. Another thing you have to worry about during the summer is the humidity. This can cause corrosion around your battery's connections, making it more difficult for your battery to perform well. If your battery is quite old, you may want to replace it before it leaves you stranded on the side of the road. Getting a volt test is always a great option that will let you know how much power your battery still has.

Maintain Proper Tire Pressure

For some reason, tires have a hard time holding onto the correct tire pressure. During the summer, you may notice your tires' air pressure is constantly increasing. While this is normal because of the heat, this doesn't mean you should ignore it. In fact, you should check on your air pressure regularly in order to avoid less than ideal road conditions. Another thing to keep an eye on this season is your tire tread. Because the asphalt is extremely hot in the summer, worn tires will suffer more. If they're already very worn, don't hesitate to get new tires.

Prevent Your Engine from Overheating

Many people think that the summer heat is the main culprit behind all those overheating engines in the summer, but this isn't exactly true. While the increasing outdoor temperatures can cause the heat under your hood to increase, your engine won't overheat unless there's already an issue in your cooling system. If you have a leak or one of the many parts in your cooling system is malfunctioning, the heat can make the problem worse, leading to an overheating engine. To prevent this from occurring, keep an eye on your coolant and on your cooling system. Look out for leaks and other issues that can get worse and cause real damage. Don't forget to give your car a synthetic oil change this summer. If you're not sure what oil to use, the synthetic oil experts at Syntex Lubricants can help! Keep an Eye on Your Fluids

Your fluids are basically your car's lifelines, so keeping an eye on them is extremely important. Before taking off on a road trip this summer, check on not only your coolant, but also your transmission fluid, brake fluid, motor oil, and power steering fluid. You want to make sure that these are still in good condition and at the proper level. If any of these fluids is running lower than it should, top it off ensuring you're using the correct type.

Get Your A/C Fixed

Although many people think that their air conditioning is a luxury, it's so much more than that. On long drives in extreme heat, the windows just won't cut it. In fact, your air conditioning is a must on those hot and dry highways. Without it you may start to feel fatigued and may even suffer from heat stroke or dehydration. To keep yourself and your passengers safe, turn on the air conditioning. Avoid the surprise of learning that your air conditioning doesn't in a moment like this by getting yours serviced early in the season. If your a/c isn't blowing as cold as it used to or if it has completely stopped blowing cold air, make an appointment with your mechanic as soon as you can!
