Take Care of Your Car's Seasonal Maintenance

As we get deeper into fall and closer to the extreme cold of winter, it is important that you stay on top of your vehicle's seasonal maintenance. Performing regular maintenance on your vehicle will help ensure it continues to run well and keeps you safe on the road. ;Syntex Lubricants in Kyle has some tips to help your car stay at its best through the fall.

Inspect Your Battery

In order to start your car in cold weather, your battery will need to be fully charged. Open your hood and inspect the condition of your battery. ;Check that the connections are tight and free of corrosion. Remember that unlike most components in your car batteries don't give much warning before they die out. To avoid having your battery fail while you're on the road have it checked by a professional. If it's more than three years old, it's a good idea to get it replaced.

Brakes and Tires

The dangerous weather conditions that accompany the last ;months of the year make your brakes and tires that much more important. Get your brake linings, rotors and drums checked in order to ensure you have maximum stopping power. Take a look at your and check the tread. If the wear bars are showing, it's time for new tires. Remember that cold weather will bring down your tire pressure. Check it regularly in order to keep it at its proper levels.

Check Fluid Levels

The fluids in your car are like the bloodlines that keep it alive. This is why inspecting your vehicle's fluids and fluid levels is so important. Top off any fluids that are running low and don't put off changing your oil. Before you decide what type of oil to use in your engine, remember that synthetic oils tend to perform better than conventional oil in extreme cold. When driving in the cold, allow your engine to idle a couple seconds and drive slowly for the first few miles to allow the oil to warm up properly.
