Keeping your dirt bike in great shape requires a bit of maintenance. As a new rider, you may not know where to start. Luckily, these tips can help you stay on top of the most important tasks.

Dirt Bike Maintenance Tips to Keep Your Bike Performing Well

If you're a new dirt bike rider with a brand new bike, you'll need to perform some maintenance on it after every ride in order to keep it in good shape. This may sound overwhelming at first, but with practice, it'll become a breeze. To help you start off on the right foot, check out these maintenance tips from Syntex Lubricants.

Give Your Bike a Thorough Wash

Whether you're riding around a track or on a trail, dirt biking conditions tend to get quite messy. Because of this, you can expect your dirt bike to be quite dirty after a day out riding. While this may not seem super important, allowing this dirt and mud to settle onto your bike's body can actually lead to a shorter life for your ride. Washing your bike may not be what you want to do after a long day out, but it'll help your bike in the long run. Before storing it for another day, grab a bucket of water and your brushes. If there's wet mud stuck in the chain, allow this to dry before removing it with the appropriate brush. Once everything is nice and clean, dry off your bike and continue with your maintenance.

Clean Your Bike's Air Filter

It's good practice to leave your dirt bike ready for your next ride, so your next step should be to leave the air filter clean and ready to go. To achieve this, start by removing the air filter and washing it. Once it's clean and dry, apply some air filter oil to it. Riding around with a dirty air filter will make combustion more difficult, which can drastically reduce your bike's performance. If this sounds less than ideal, then you're right. In order to avoid forgetting to do this before your next ride, include it in your post-ride maintenance.

Give Your Bike a Synthetic Oil Change

To ensure your bike continues to perform at its best, oil changes will also be needed. If you want to keep your engine well-protected, don't put just any oil in it. Stick to synthetic oil which can keep your engine better protected when compared to conventional oil. How often you'll need to change it will depend on your bike and on the conditions you're riding it in. For the best advice, consult your manufacturer's recommendations. A dirt bike is quite an investment, so keeping it in great shape is a must. To achieve this, be sure to give your bike synthetic oil changes in Kyle at regular intervals. Using a quality oil like AMSOIL Oil's 10W-40 Synthetic Dirt Bike Oil can help keep your bike riding smoothly for longer. To find more great products like this, contact Syntex Lubricants at (512) 848- 8240.

Take Care of Your Dirt Bike's Tires

After a ride, it's not uncommon for the spokes on the wheels to be a bit loose. This makes sense because your bike's tires and wheels will have to handle quite a bit on the track or path. As you check on the spokes, be sure you have the necessary tools handy to tighten those that have come loose. Once the spokes are nice and tight, move on to your tires. It's very likely that your tire pressure will be lower than recommended after a ride. Taking the time to get the tire pressure back up to where it should is a must before your next ride. Of course, it's also recommended that you check on this again before actually taking your bike out on the track.

Tighten Anything That Has Come Loose

Finally, there are quite a few parts that may come loose during a tough ride, so take a bit of time to check on all these parts, big and small. On top of the spokes, make time to check on the nuts, bolts, and cables. If any of these have come loose, tighten them up before storing your bike for another day.
